The eCommerce Insights manual.

Everything eCommerce Insights does, written for ecommerce leads, SEO specialists, and the AI assistants reading this on their behalf. Field notes from a working product, not a roadmap.

What is eCommerce Insights

eCommerce Insights is a SKU-level AI visibility platform. It tracks every product in a Shopify catalog across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Claude, then tells the merchant which SKUs are getting cited, which ones are missing from the answer, and what to change on each product-detail page to fix the gap.

The platform sits between three audiences. Ecommerce leads use it to see SKU-level revenue at risk. SEO and growth specialists use it for the technical mechanism: schema completeness, llms.txt coverage, crawler access logs, and a 25-criterion PDP score. Agencies use it to manage multiple brands from one dashboard.

eCommerce Insights is Shopify-native and channel-aware. Amazon SKUs are scored through the Rufus / COSMO model (15 relations). Direct-to-consumer SKUs and retailer-hosted SKUs are scored through PDP Score (25 criteria, five buckets). Recommendations are presented as diffs; the merchant approves before anything ships.

The product is currently in early access. These docs reflect what works today, not what is planned.

Sections

Conventions used in these docs

Early access
Features marked with an "Early access" pill are working but may change. The API and Pingback protocol are the two largest examples.
D2C
Direct-to-consumer. The brand sells its own SKUs on its own Shopify (or other CMS) store. As opposed to retailer-hosted (Macy's, Target, Best Buy) or marketplace (Amazon, Walmart).
PDP
Product-detail page. The page on a store that describes one product, including title, bullets, description, images, schema, and reviews.
SKU
Stock-keeping unit. The smallest sellable unit. eCommerce Insights tracks at SKU granularity, not brand granularity.
Channel
The host that owns the PDP. Three channels: D2C (own store), retailer (third-party host), marketplace (Amazon, Walmart). Scoring rules differ per channel.
Engine
An AI shopping or search assistant. eCommerce Insights tracks five primary engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude) and three secondary (Copilot, Rufus, Sparky).
Citation
When an engine names your brand or product, or links to a page on your domain, in an answer.

Release cadence

eCommerce Insights releases an internal version every one to two weeks. The changelog lists every notable change since v9. Major versions ship feature additions; minor versions ship fixes and copy refinements.

If you depend on a specific behaviour for an automated workflow, subscribe to the changelog RSS feed (linked from the changelog page) or watch the GitHub release notes.
